Approvals for Confluence Cloud - September 2026

New features 💎

• Page approvals now have a title and description, like section approvals. This allows requesters to provide clarity on why an approval is needed and what it is for.

  • A default title of ‘Page Approval’ is used as a placeholder, but this default can be changed in a space via the app’s space settings at: Space Settings > Integrations > Approvals > Default Settings > Change Default Settings.

  • The page approval title and description can be added to the ‘Page Approval Status Macro’ - visible on the page and in any page exports. To add title and description to the macro, visit: Space Settings > Integrations > Approvals > Page Approval Macro Configuration > Change Page Approval Macro Configuration

Improvements 🛠️

• The requester can now resubmit a page approval request via the ‘Resubmit request’ option in the byline card ••• menu. The approval request will be recreated with the same settings and approvers as before. All approver decisions will be Pending.

• Approver decisions are now represented by a coloured ring around their avatar, as opposed to a small status icon that was primarily meant for representing user activity (i.e., online status).

• We have extended the status update emails to also be sent to the requester of an approval as well as the page owner. If the page owner and requester are the same user, only one email will be sent.

• The ‘Email Settings’ section (Apps → Approvals → Personal Settings) now has increased granularity. Before, one toggle would enable or disable all emails from the app. Now, you can choose whether you want emails for approval requests, status updates on approvals you have requested, and status updates for approval requests on pages that you own.

Deprecations ❌

• The notification settings on page and section approvals, Notify approvers and Update owners, are now marked for deprecation and will be removed on 2026-10-05.

  • Users can now enable or disable individual email notifications from their personal preferences, and so from the removal date emails will always be sent for both page and section approvals, while respecting individual users' preferences.

• Removed:

  • Space Settings > General > “Display Timestamps” - removed on 2026-09-10

  • Section Approvals > “Disable Automatic Comments” - removed on 2026-09-11

Upcoming changes 🔀

• We plan to change the way page approvals work, specifically regarding flexibility in making decisions and its impact on auditability (more details here). These changes are scheduled for October 2026.
