After creating the Restriction Schemes that are needed, these can be applied to Confluence in two ways; globally or to individual spaces.

All of this is managed in the Scope settings in Compliance for Confluence (as shown below). Navigate to these settings to begin configuring how Restriction Schemes are applied.

Applying a Restriction Scheme Globally

If you would like to apply a single Restriction Scheme to your entire Confluence instance, start by ensuring the Manage Globally option within the Scope settings is activated (as shown below).

Next, ensure the Enable Restriction Scheme setting is activated. This will give you the ability to select a Restriction Scheme from the drop down menu and you can select the Restriction Scheme that you have created.

For more information about using the Scope settings check out our admin guides.

Applying a Restriction Scheme to Individual Spaces

For a more customized approach to how restrictions are applied throughout Confluence you can assign Restriction Schemes to individual spaces. This is particularly useful if there are teams or departments using Confluence who need specific access restriction for their spaces.

To start applying Restriction Schemes to individual spaces, start by ensuring the Manage Globally option is de-activated. This will enable you to select individual spaces under the Space Settings heading in the Scope page.

Next, find the space(s) you want to apply Restriction Schemes too and ensure the Enable Restriction Scheme option is activated. Now you can select the Restriction Schemes you have created from the drop down menu (as shown below).

Once a Restriction Scheme has been selected you will be prompted to update current restrictions to pages affected by this change (as shown below).

If you select Apply to existing page restrictions this will proactively apply the Restriction Schemes page restrictions to all existing pages. This is not mandatory and the choice is yours. If you leave this option unselected it will leave existing pages with the original page restrictions and the new Restriction Scheme will only be applied to pages that are classified after this point.
