Request an approval on an item

Teams often have the same group of approvers who review and approve items. However, when there are numerous items to approve, this can become overwhelming for individuals. Therefore, it is essential not to complicate the process, as it may take longer for items to be approved. With approvals, the process is simplified, allowing reviewers to approve an item while providing feedback all in one place.

It’s easy to add approvals to your items. Once the Approvals app has been installed, you can click into any of your items in a monday.com board to bring up the view window.

In this guide, we will show you how to approve an item that has been requested for approval and how you can provide feedback.

Approving an item

If you have received a notification regarding approval, you can click on the item in the notification to be guided to the approval round. Alternatively, you can click on the item and navigate to ‘approvals’ , where you will see the approval with your name under the approver's section (A).

Depending on your approval outcome, you can approve the item by clicking the tick or cross icon under the status section (B)

You will notice the approval status is still shown as ‘pending review,’ and the comment section has automatically opened. Before the approval status is updated, the comment section will open to provide feedback before notifying the approval owner. Once you have added feedback, click save (C), and the approval status will change.

If you click back on the comment section of the approval, the sidebar and approval will change back to in review on the left-hand sidebar (D) as this shows the approval owner that you have edited the comment. If you leave the comment section without clicking save, the approval status will stay in review compared to your previous approval decision.
